The Journey of Self Love
So you want to start loving yourself. It can seem daunting at first but here are some ways to begin. First, what does someone who loves themselves look like? Do they spend 24/7 in a spa, repeating mantras? Probably not. Loving yourself is a way of being, where you prioritise your well being and happiness. This usually involves healthy boundaries and the ability to voice one’s needs. Take some time to write down what it would look like if you began loving yourself, totally and completely. What would you no longer accept, and what would you begin doing in your life?
Next we’re going to cover a big one! STOP COMPARING YOURSELF. “Comparison is the thief of joy.” You are so incredibly, uniquely YOU! You have qualities that make you a rare gem, and you can’t waste a minute trying to be someone else. This world needs you. Beautiful, authentic YOU!
They say that you are the sum of the five people you spend your time with. I believe this has a lot to do with our well being. Surround yourself with loving, supporting people. The beauty of the internet means that you can find a peer group worldwide. This can be a podcast or a forum… as long as they are aligned with the life you wish to live.
Everyone’s path is bound to have some difficulty. Things go wrong and we make mistakes. Loving yourself means that you are compassionate when you fall down, and cheer yourself on, as you get back up. These are just a few ways to begin loving yourself. The path is never the same for everyone, and the truth is, it’s ongoing. A daily practice. Some days will be better than others, and on the days it's not going well… be compassionate. Take some deep breaths and remember that you’re not alone.
